    Carbon Credits

Carbon Credits We have a full time team that specializes in assisting carbon project owners with carbon project development, structuring and the registration of carbon projects in accordance with global standards to generate and trade carbon credits.

Increase your company revenue Plan strategically and execute effectively Reduce operating expenses and open new markets Enhance your brand Attract new investors Reduce business risk associated with Climate Change Build employee loyalty and pride Comply with current or future legislation

The carbon footprint was calculated by gathering data from employees across the following domains; electricity, flights, own car, car sharing, and car rentals.  The largest contributor was flights, mostly due to the high demand of face-to-face training courses that GCX offers in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Windhoek and Durban.
Imperative flights aside, GCX functions in lieu of the environment at all times, and has adopted a few simple but highly impactful operating principles.
GCX are able to breakdown the emissions on a per employee basis to equal 3.5 tonnes CO2e per employee per annum.

Some of the most effective principles adopted by the company have been; allowing staff to work from home two or three days a week, the use of skype for conference calls and meetings with progressive clients, car-pooling as the first option, as well as making use of alternative transport such as public transport or motorbike/scooter/bicycle. The impact of using skype for meetings and conference calls is unquestionable in both a reduced travel and financial element. In addition the office is almost 100% paperless, and only low energy lighting is used.

GCX is dedicated to ensuring their footprint is maintained as low as possible and are an example that by incorporating the correct principles into your work environment, the impact is noteworthy.  The education department has decided to translate these principles into courses, and will soon be releasing a Green Your Office course as well as a Residential Eco-Auditor course.

One of the key fundamentals in conducting a carbon footprint is that it is not like solving an equation. The result needs to be managed and maintained on an ongoing basis. GCX are purchasing trees from Food & Trees for Africa, http://www.trees.co.za/, in order to offset their emissions and truly walk the walk they teach and preach.

If Man-Made Climate Change Isn't Real?
There are two fundamental climate change arguments; the first is that man-made climate change isn’t real and that the planet is warming and cooling naturally. The second is based on overwhelming science and data which supports the findings that the unprecidented speed at which the planet is warming is due to human fossil-fuel burning and…

The Environmental Levy on Plastic Bags
The Environmental Levy on Plastic Bags is increasing from 4c to a whopping 6c per bag on the 1st of April 2013. This got me questioning, "What difference is 6c going to make to anyone? How does the environment benefit? And if the levy is only a few cents, why do bags cost us close…

GCX Supports Community Food Garden and Nutritional Cooking Training
When faced recently with how to balance out the triple bottom line of our business, our immediate instinct would be for us to support an environmental cause. Given, however, that we spend every working hour (and many more), on projects and programs that have the primary objective of reducing the impact on the environment, we…

Is Climate Skepticism a Business Risk?
I don’t think anyone can deny that things around us are changing. We have all recently witnessed, either directly or indirectly, increasingly intense temperatures or frequent weather events such as storms, heat waves, hail, floods and droughts. Pacific Island states watch helplessly as their land is encroached upon by rising sea levels. Communities look on…
