It is estimated that buildings consume between 40%- 50% of the world’s energy during construction and operation. The aims of green buildings are to minimise environmental impact through the reduction of energy consumption and CO2 emissions as a result of the burning of fossil fuels, water and land pollution, and depletion of natural resources and disposal of waste.
It has been shown that green buildings can reduce energy consumption, waste and water usage by as much 50% compared to conventional buildings.
The Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) has developed a Green Star Environmental Rating tool, based very closely on the highly successful Australian version.
Green Star SA Accredited Professionals are the link between the building design team and the GBCSA. Through education and examination, these professionals are trained to assist in the design of green buildings and to achieve the desired Green Star Rating.
GCX has a number of engineers who are certified by the GBCSA as Green Star Accredited Professionals and can provide customers with advisory services aimed at:
- Building new buildings in accordance with the Green Star rating system to ensuring that design and construction achieve the highest ratings.
