Fair Cape Dairies is leading the way in greening the local milk industry by being the first South African dairy to publish its carbon footprint on its milk bottles.

South Africa was placed squarely in the spotlight during the last quarter of 2011 with the announcement of large investments in alternative energy, the creation of thousands of jobs by growing the green economy, hosting COP17 and the release of the much anticipated Climate Change Response White Paper.

The 2011 Carbon Disclosure Project South Africa JSE 100 Report revealed a high response rate of 83%. South Africa came second, after Europe, in terms of the amount of companies that participated in voluntary disclosure, out of the 60 countries that participated in the survey. This alone signifies how seriously the South African business community is about shifting to a low carbon economy.

The CCLA are the first awards in South Africa and Africa that recognize, reward, motivate and celebrate businesses, communities, youth, schools and individuals that are taking the lead to combat climate change through positive voluntary action. Global Carbon Exchange (GCX) has decided to sponsor a training course to the value of approximately R6500 for each category winner, as GCX also subscribes strongly to the belief that leaders in the field of sustainability should be recognised for their efforts.
