South Africa takes Carbon Disclosure Seriously

The 2011 Carbon Disclosure Project South Africa JSE 100 Report revealed a high response rate of 83%. South Africa came second, after Europe, in terms of the amount of companies that participated in voluntary disclosure, out of the 60 countries that participated in the survey. This alone signifies how seriously the South African business community is about shifting to a low carbon economy.

Time is running out to enter the CCLA

Time is running out to enter nominees for The Climate Change Leadership Awards (CCLA). Entries close on 6 February 2012 – so visit www.ccla.co.za as soon as possible.

 

The CCLA are the first awards in South Africa and Africa that recognize, reward, motivate and celebrate businesses, communities, youth, schools and individuals that are taking the lead to combat climate change through positive voluntary action. Global Carbon Exchange (GCX) has decided to sponsor a training course to the value of approximately R6500 for each category winner, as GCX also subscribes strongly to the belief that leaders in the field of sustainability should be recognised for their efforts.

GCX - Creating change

During the first weekend of December, GCX had the opportunity to be involved in an extraordinary CSI initiative, initiated by the wonderful team at Creating Change. GCX staff raised money, which was matched by the company, to send a couple of deserving children on a weekend away to learn about the environment and to have fun doing so.

Kevin James' experience of Cop17

Having just arrived back from COP17 to attend to my real job, I would like to share my perceptions of my week there. I didn’t have any major expectations probably given all the turmoil in the run up to the event. Being in the industry and having the benefit of seeing tenders going backwards and forwards only to then be retracted and then reissued culminating in much last minute activity.
