Measure Emissions | Print |
A 'Carbon Footprint' is an indicator of environmental sustainability. It is used to measure the impact of human activities on the environment in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. Each unit is equivalent to one tonne of carbon dioxide.

Calculating the 'Footprint' of your business requires you to measure the use of resources throughout your facilities, operations and services. In this way, your business can identify critical areas where operational efficiencies can be improved and impacts on the environment, such as carbon dioxide emissions, can be reduced.

The following areas should be considered in the calculation of a company's carbon emissions:

  • energy supply
  • lighting
  • water heating systems
  • transport & commuting
  • air travel
  • upstream impacts - supply chain
  • downstream consumption of products and services
  • emissions linked to products
