1. Operational Carbon Footprint Assessments
Establishing your company's operational carbon footprint is an effective way to put a stake in the ground around which to motivate an emission reduction strategy. A carbon footprint reduction strategy is an excellent way to rally your company around reducing operational expenses as each piece of a footprint represents a cost to the company that can be reduced. GCX adheres strictly to global best practice in the form of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol in the calculation of your company's carbon footprint. The assessment includes looking at all electricity, water, waste, travel, fuels and paper, and converting these into tons of CO2e. Outcomes of this assessment include a detailed breakdown of your total emissions, a GAP analysis on how to improve data collation processes as well as detailed recommendations on how to reduce these emissions.

2. Product Carbon Footprint Assessments
A product carbon footprint is different from an operational carbon footprint in that the product carbon footprint focuses on the green house gases embedded in that particular product rather than those of an entire company. This assessment includes looking at all upstream and downstream emissions of the product across its full life cycle. GCX adheres strictly to the method specified in the BSI Publicly Available Specification 2050:2008 (PAS2050) when conducting this assessment. Benefits of a product carbon footprint include being able to accurately compare low carbon products with conventional products and leveraging this key information to differentiate your green products from conventional ones as well as those of your competitors.

6. Carbon Neutral Strategy Development
A growing number of our customers have realized the brand enhancement opportunity associated with Carbon Neutral status. Attaining carbon neutral status means that your business in any given 12 months has offset its emissions by 100%. In 2010 a new standard for carbon neutrality has been established called PAS 2060. This global standard is now used as the basis for establishing carbon neutrality. Wherever possible GCX adheres to this standard and can help your company to become carbon neutral.
Slow but thorough method: First you assess your footprint and then embark on an astute reduction strategy cutting your emissions every year until you have achieved carbon neutrality. In most cases, this would involve considerable investment to offset your final emissions that cannot be cut through efficiency methods. Solutions are dependant on your type of business but might include solar, wind, biomass or another. Offsetting can also involve purchasing carbon credit certificates from a carbon project that meets your triple bottom line investment criteria.
Fast but ongoing method: If you want carbon neutrality immediately and are not willing to embark on a reduction strategy or if your business has a very small footprint then you can achieve carbon neutrality status by purchasing carbon offset certificates to the amount of your CO2 emissions. E.g. CO2 footprint is 10 tons and you annually buy 10 tons of CO2 from a carbon offset project then you will achieve carbon neutral status in any given year.
GCX will help you choose the right strategy for your business to ensure that you gain the maximum "Eco-Advantage".

7. CDP reporting
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an independent not-for-profit organization holding the largest database of primary corporate climate change information in the world.
Thousands of organizations from across the world's major economies voluntarily measure and disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategies through CDP.
This year, CDP - backed by 475 global institutional investors representing more than US$55 trillion of funds under management - sent questionnaires to more than 3,700 of the world's largest corporations requesting information on their greenhouse gas emissions. The corporations' individual responses, as well as regional reports assessing these responses, have been published in more than 20 countries around the world and are freely available at www.cdproject.net.
The benefits of submitting this information to the CDP include:

8. Verification
The overall aim of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) verification activities is to give confidence to all parties that rely upon the correctness of a GHG assertion or GHG emissions inventory.
The party making the GHG assertion is responsible for conformity with the requirements of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol or ISO 14064.
The verification body (GCX) is responsible for completing an objective assessment and providing a verification statement concerning the responsible party's GHG assertion based on evidence. Verification is conducted in accordance with the requirements set out in the International Standard for bodies that undertake verification using ISO 14064-3 or other relevant standards or specifications.
GCX offers two levels of verification services depending on the requirements of our customer:
- Limited Assurance : Less emphasis is placed on detailed testing of GHG data and information supplied to support the GHG assertion. This is the most commonly practised form of verification.
- Reasonable Assurance : A reasonable, but not absolute, level of assurance is provided that the GHG assertion is materially correct. A reasonable assurance engagement is more in-depth and can therefore take much longer to complete than a limited assurance engagement. GCX therefore only offers this level of assurance after a detailed discussion with the customer.
